General
A large population of the veterans is residing in the tri-city of Chandimandir – Panchkula – Mohali. These veterans including a large number of senior officers apart from ex COAS and Army Commanders, are a repository of vast knowledge, experience and thorough understanding of national security and defence affairs. In addition, a large number of civilian scholars / academicians with domain knowledge of defence and strategic affairs are also available with various regional Universities in the in the reagion. However, no institute in particular was available to harness this knowledge and experience. The Gyan Chakra conceptualized by Lt Gen KJ Singh, PVSM, AVSM** GOC-in-C Western Command, has been set up Lat Senior veterans Home. Sector 2 Panchkula to fill this vacuum. The institute was inaugurated on 21 May 2016.
Aim
The aim of establishing Gyan Chakra is to exploit vast domain knowledge of service and civilian defence scholars/ academicians in the region in order to foster research and healthy debate on defence related subjects.
Vision
The vision of Gyan Chakra is to emerge as “leading Think Tank” in development and promotion of intellectual growth on strategic and defence related issues and futuristic thinking on such issues across the spectrum of conflict and warfare. The Think Tank will aspire to attract leading strategic thinkers, defence analysts, scholars/ academicians and media personalities to deliberate on all facets of strategic and defence related issues and come out with cogent recommendations.
Motto
The motto of the institute is “In Pursuit of Knowledge and Excellence”.
Management
The institute is governed and managed through a Board of Governors, Executive Council and an Administrative Committee.
Activities
A wide array of intellectual activities like lectures, seminars, workshops round table conferences, literary festivals, research work and publishing of professional journals will be undertaken and organized under the aegis of the institute.
